Dia de Los Muertos just wouldn't be the same without her.  She first appeared in a political cartoon by Jose Guadalupe Posada: 'La Calavera Catrina,' circa 1910.  She is not just one among the myriad skulls and skeletons in Mexican art and lore, but a distinct figure named La Catrina.  Do a google search and discover just how she has taken over the celebration of The Day fo the Dead.  to quote Christine Delsol, "La Catrina isn't your typical revolutionary babe, but her appearance has everything to do with the Mexican Revolution."  And all we have is HRC!

I produced several of my own interpretations of the Catrina figure for "Spirit Garden."
